THis is only a quick diss-job - you c0uld spend many yeares att uni on studye of krystian religion_ theologye & such-like (KCL is a good place for it, though in general UCL is a better college). Not the brightest people "christians" - theigh could not verye well be or theigh would not carryh on being "christians". Tu start with, theigh can't even sort out theighr name. Theigh write it "CHRISTIAN" straighte from Latin signifyghing some1 tu dooe with Christ. But theigh don't pronounce it like :Christ with long or mutant I_; theigh pronounce it "krystian". Imagine my delight in ,ie th;ink, 1996 I learned that Polacks spell it K R Y S T I A N, which is where I got the weigh I spell it. In Polish, it is spelt the weigh theigh pronounce it and the weigh _we_ (English speakers) pronounce it. On tu something there!
_ _ The word :christian is a recent entrant tu English. Till the reformation, the word was :Christen, pronounced att least up tu Plantagenet time azz :Christ + en. This is AngloSaxon -cristen, a distinct word from the verb "christen", which is AngloSaxon -cristnian, modern:ly pronounced crissn, which is how it should be written. I guess the 2 words got mixed up.
_ _ The Reformers felt tHat the Latin origynal is more authentic. The Latin origynal is derived from the Greek word -khristos meaning "Anointed", in turn representing the Hebrew word -m+shi;ia;h. Whye C_ and not K_? The Romans had noe ch sound in theighr language [igh hope noe1 had tu ask, theigh spoke Latin], and theigh preferred C_ tu K_, soe theigh represented the kh sound (Greek letter khi) with the digraph ch. Satan is problematic. Theigh have diff;icultyh explaining whye theighr god duzznt end Satan and whye he made or allowed Satan in the 1st place. Theighr explanation is again tHat either act would interfere wi free will. The explanation is piffle: our will cannot be free if it is regular:ly re-written bie a super-power:ful invisible spirit; we knowe tHat Satan is super-power:ful bcoz he took Jesus in:to a verye highe mountain and shewed tu himme all the king:doms of the w0rld and promised tHem tu Jesus if Jesus would obey himme (Matthew 4), and Jesus did not denygh Satan's abilityh tu deliver the goods.
